Viking Steam Combi Oven - OUT!

Great idea and all but the interior space is way too small. I don’t think you can even fit a chicken in there:(

Shopping for appliances...good service?

I went to BSC on Market St today. It seemed like it’s the place to be and get a look at the popular chef inspired brands (viking, wolf, sub, etc..)

I got a close look at the glass door subzero’s. Nice!  The saleswoman didn’t do a great job describing the finish choices, since I still don’t get it. But that’s only the cosmetic stuff…. so who cares!

What I do care about are cooking tools.  So I went there today to get some answers on ovens and stove tops; warranties, repairs, heat control, consistency, etc… Things that are important to someone who actually cooks in the kitchen.  So when I said I used to be in the food business, I didn’t mean it as, “I’m gonna spend $$$$”, or “look at me, I’m sooo cool”, I meant it as this will not be a show piece kitchen. Features and buttons and racks are important, but seriously what works better every time? I didn’t get one straight answer from her.

And on an aside, once I told he I was in the biz, she replied with, “then you should know what works well!”, which is just crazy! I know how to cook lady and not what oven to buy.  Daniel Boulud never asked me what oven I liked before installing it in his kitchen. I was given no choice about the matter and tailored my baking to the oven (and not vice versa).

So there! stupid sales woman:)

Week 3: Designer yes or no?

Today I met with potential Designer #3. She was a bit stand off-ish at the start, but by the end I liked her style and thought she might offer a lot of ideas.  I still like Designer #2 the best, she’s young, contemporary and easy to talk to.  But I’m not convinced younger is better. Will her style be too modern and does she have too little experience?

The thing is, I am not sold on whether or not we need a designer at all (our architect is helping with layout and measurements). No matter what we set aside for a designer budget, the $ could all be used elsewhere.  We also know what we want and have gone over every possible kitchen layout.  So once we rounded in on the best plan for style and convenience, I’m not sure we need to keeping searching.

Is the wholesale designer discount that good?  Do it or not?

Downstairs powder room:
Idea 1: this counter with sink shown or copper bowl sink (faucet on side wall)
Idea 2: vintage piece of furniture made into vanity + mediterranean painted bowl sink (regular faucet location)

Minus the baby, this is a nice color for a nursery.

I like the ensemble of colorful canvases in diff sizes.  Copy this idea for one of the kid’s rooms? Or the basement?

This is a cute idea: put wall paper inside of a bookshelf. Maybe in the basement/ laundry cabinets?
