How to pick a General Contractor? Please tell me!
Today, I met Mr [potential] GC #4. He was nice, we connected, I felt like he could be “the one”, especially when he told me we probably don’t need to take down the walls for new electrical. But then I threw out some numbers and he came back with a whopping 300-400k. How is it that I’ve received 3 other rough pre-architectural plan quotes and they range from 180k to 600k. What can they possibly give me? A whole new house? If this guy said it is easier to take the walls out than work around existing walls, why not take them down and reduce the price? I know there are larger companies with more overhead, more experienced workers and even higher end finishes, but really…. how am I supposed to choose between these guys?
